Realized I haven’t blogged in a while, so I thought I’d give a quick update on my WIP and what I’m reading.
The Sword of the Witch
I’m currently writing draft 1.5 of my story The Sword of the Witch. I wrote 35k words of it last July, but then decided I needed to make a few major changes, including adding an entirely new character with her own POV chapters. I’ve been able to copy over some of what I had written, but not all. I’m currently sitting at 38,097 words! So I’ve surpassed the work I did on my initial draft. Yay!
The Sword of the Witch can get really dark and heavy at times. As I tried to capture in my latest aesthetic:
I got majorly held up with The Magicians (which is AWFUL) and Akata Warrior (which I really wished I had enjoyed more). But I finally finished them both along with Six Gun Snow White this week. I am currently reading Graceling, On Writing, A Long Way Home (Lion), and The Cruel Prince, also, kind of, Daughter of the Forest. I started Daughter of the Forest, but probably won’t pick it up again until I’ve finished Graceling and The Cruel Prince. I have to finish Graceling by January 28th and On Writing by February 11th for book club discussions. If you’ve read either of those two or want to, join Writerly Book Club on Twitter for the upcoming discussions!
Next up on my TBR list are Crooked Kingdom, An Ember in the Ashes, and an ARC of The Rogue Queen by Emily R. King! I reviewed The Fire Queen, second in King’s series, here on my blog. Everything else that I’ve read this month (the top row of the picture above), I’ve reviewed on Goodreads.
